About
This site exists because most information about Chinese electric cars in English is written by people who borrowed one for a week.
Who writes it
Written by Marcelo SaldaƱa, a systems engineer who has driven a BYD Atto 3 as a daily car since 2024.
As of the most recent log entry the car has covered 47,739.9 km at a lifetime average of 15.6 kWh/100 km. That figure comes off the car's own display and is updated monthly.
Something you should know up front
The car is in Chile. The prices on this site are British.
That combination deserves an explanation rather than a quiet omission. The Atto 3 sold in the United Kingdom and the Yuan Plus sold in Chile are the same vehicle, so consumption, charging behaviour and battery degradation transfer directly. Electricity prices, charging networks and weather do not, which is why every price on this site is sourced from a named British supplier or from Ofgem, and never from personal experience.
Where a figure comes from the car, it is owner data. Where it comes from the market, it is cited. The two are never mixed. The method page explains how each figure is derived and labelled.
What is actually logged
Four records, kept continuously rather than assembled for an article:
- Every charging session: energy at the meter, cost, network, temperature
- Sampled journeys, including one fixed reference route driven weekly
- A monthly snapshot of odometer and lifetime consumption
- A battery capacity check every two months, to the same protocol each time
The reference route matters more than it sounds. Because the route never changes, temperature is the only variable, which over a year produces a real consumption curve for this car rather than a manufacturer's laboratory figure.
How this site makes money
Display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what is written, and no manufacturer or charging network has paid for or reviewed anything here. Where affiliate links are used they will be marked as such before the link, not after.
